03/27/2020 from Superintendent Ron Snell

To the GCS Family,

On March 26, 2020, Governor Kay Ivey and State Superintendent, Dr. Eric Mackey, announced the closure of all Alabama Public Schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While this news is disheartening and not what we had hoped for, the decision was made to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. The Geneva City Schools' leadership team is working diligently to develop a plan that will ensure all students receive critical standards for the last eight weeks of school.

Someone from your child’s school will contact you next week to discuss delivery options for all lessons. This information will be utilized to develop a comprehensive plan that will hopefully meet the needs of all students in Geneva City Schools. The best way for us to provide the instruction will be over the internet, whether that be on their phone, a tablet, a laptop or a computer. I know this is not possible for everyone, and we will allow for multiple methods of instruction. Either way, our primary goal is to ensure the health and safety of our students, while still delivering critical content. We want to provide opportunities for promotion to the next grade level. More information will be provided over the next two weeks outlining specific steps to achieve these goals.

Seniors, I realize that this is not the way that you pictured finishing your high school career. I want to assure you and your family that we will make every effort to see that Honors Day and graduation take place if these events can be executed safely. If possible, we will even schedule these events during the summer months. I know this is not ideal, but we want to find a way to memorialize your years in Geneva City Schools.

While I am aware that there are still many questions and concerns, we are committed to addressing these questions and providing more guidance as information becomes available. Please continue to monitor the GCS website at http://www.genevacityschools.com/, as well as monitoring our social media pages. I will continue to make All Calls from our school phone messaging system. If you have not been getting these calls, please contact your school and check the number that we have on file.

Please be patient with us and your child(ren) during these unprecedented and difficult times. We will likely have to make adjustments and refine plans along the way. But, Geneva City Schools and its faculty are committed to the process of educating all students during these extraordinary times. By working together, we will overcome the challenges associated with this pandemic and will continue to provide our students with the tools necessary for success.

Continue to maintain social distancing and good health practices. Stay healthy and well. God Bless Geneva City Schools.

As of 03/13/2020, per Governor Ivey's announcement:

The Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama State Department of Education, and Governor Kay Ivey have announced the closing of all public schools statewide.

After the close of business on Wednesday, March 18th, all Alabama public schools will have a two and a half week break. There will also be no school athletic events during this period.

Cheerleader tryouts for Geneva High School and Geneva Middle School have been postponed. There will be no practices Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday (03/15/2020 - 03/17/2020).
