September 17, 2021

Panther Family,

The Geneva City Schools mask mandate will expire at the end of the school day today, September 17, 2021. That means that Monday, September 20, 2021, faculty, staff, and students will no longer be required to wear a mask at school. We will continue to recommend that the Panther family wear masks when inside, but this will not be a requirement.

The decision to discontinue the mandatory mask mandate is based on the reduced number of positive cases in our schools and community. We have maintained a 0.48% positivity rate over the past ten days. Ten days with less than 1.0% positives is a generally accepted threshold statewide for discontinuing mask mandates. The decision to end the mandate was made in collaboration with school and medical professionals. Based on the reduced positive cases in our schools and our community, it is justifiable that we lift the mask mandate at this time.

Our COVID-related decisions have been based on statistics thus far. We will continue to use data to drive decisions moving forward. Geneva City Schools will issue a new mask mandate if there is a significant increase in either the number of positive cases or the number of close contact "quarantines." It is our goal to stay open and to do so safely. Please continue to monitor your child(ren) carefully. If they have any signs of COVID do not hesitate to keep them home. We will continue to work with our students. We are honored to serve this great community and appreciate the support you have shown us throughout this difficult period. I pray we are finally close to putting all of this behind us.

Stay safe and Go Panthers!
